It might have started when the idea of skydiving was briefly mentioned in a passing conversation, or it might be a lifelong dream. Either way, there’s a part of you that wants to see what this freefalling fun is all about, but you still need a little convincing. Hence the oft-whispered self inquisition: why should you go skydiving? There are several reasons not to – perhaps most prominently, you are scared or nervous about disrupting the status quo. Yet still, you’ve made it here — searching for reasons why you should take the leap!
Honestly, the reasons to skydive will vary from person to person. The only one who can truly determine why you should go skydiving is, well, you! That being said, amongst the countless reasons to skydive we’ve encountered, there are a few common themes. Of the following four benefits to skydive we explore, maybe a few will speak to you.
Sure, you may have flown on a commercial aircraft before, but the truth is riding in an airplane isn’t “really” flying. If you really want to experience the element, you have to get out of the vehicle. You wouldn’t consider riding in a boat to be swimming, would you? Likewise, if you really want to fly, you’ve got to get out of the plane!
Freefall isn’t just about falling straight down. Rather, by manipulating the air, you can move forward or backward, glide side to side, and turn left and right. You can actually *fly* in freefall. True flight has to be experienced to be understood. And, if we’re going to be honest, once you’ve gotten a taste you’ll never look at the sky the same way again.
We are often our own worst critics – and with social media providing ample opportunity to play the comparison game – it’s far too easy to allow the internal monologue to turn negative. This can chip away at self-worth and fill you, instead, with self-doubt. Though there may be cracks in the self-confidence foundation, skydiving can help to repair them. One of the reasons many people go skydiving is to rediscover and rebuild confidence.
Getting up the courage to cross the threshold from the security of the aircraft into the wild blue unknown of the sky requires a little bit of mental fortitude. However, by putting yourself in a situation that requires you to overcome fear and push your limits, you prove something powerful to yourself: you can truly do anything you put your mind to. If that doesn’t give you a confidence boost, what will?
In the world today, it’s easy to become jaded. Skydiving is just the thing to provide a literal and metaphorical shift in perspective. Many experienced jumpers refer to jumping as “sky therapy.” This is because on a jump, for a blissful minute, your mind can focus on nothing else but the moment at hand. It’s the ultimate mindfulness activity. The act of skydiving does two powerful things: it helps to reaffirm living in the present moment, and it encourages us to appreciate each and every second.
The last, but not the least, of the top four reasons to skydive is that jumping from a plane is seriously fun. Especially for those who enjoy an adventure, the adrenaline rush from freefalling 120 mph simply can’t be beaten. It’s a rip-roaring time if there ever was one.
Although tandem skydiving is not a thrill ride, it does allow participants to enjoy skydiving with little work on their part. On a tandem skydive, you will be paired with a licensed, professional skydiving instructor. They will be in charge of operating the skydiving equipment and steering the parachute to landing. Of course, if you’d like a little more responsibility, just let them know – our instructors would love to show you the ropes!
